Bus Tour B1: 800 years in 4 hours – Berlin – Tour de Horizons
Berlin: From the fisherman-village to the fastest changing city in all of Europe. From the small, dirty and simple town on the eastern border of the Holy Roman Empire of German Nations to the Residence of the Great Electors of Brandenburg, then the capital of the state of Prussia and later the center of the German Reich II. and III. 770 years of city history, manifested in the annual rings of its buildings, urban structures, and developments.
These stone-witnesses of passing times tell their stories of ideas, hopes, dreams, and changes in the life of Berlin and the Berliners.
On this tour, some of the visible and a few of the passed away layers of Berlin history will be lit and discovered along those interesting planned, built or never realized buildings and streets.
The following special points of interest will be part of this tour:
- The “Stalinallee” and the “small Alexander square” (“Plattenbauten”),
- A walk alongside the museum of the “Mark Brandenburg”, incl. some Berlin bears,
- Visit to the exhibition »Architecture-models of Berlin«,
- The “Gendarmenmarkt” and the Friedrichstreet,
- Potsdamer und Leipziger squares,
- Building-areas of the architectural exhibitions from 1954 and 1988.
Due to traffic or time circumstances, the list and the order of the
above mentioned points may vary and may not always include every single
one. The interests and wishes of the individual groups will be
considered and realized as often as possible. The final decision on the
possible route and stops is always up to the tour-guide.
